May…Been There a Dozen Times

Well... I have been to this blog a DOZEN times to see if my friends have posted?!! Does that count? ha ha! just kidding :) This month, I am writing about Columbus Triangle, a little plaza, right below the N/Q train (formerly N/W) in Astoria, Queens (you can see the train in the trees). I have walked by this statue more than a dozen times before; usually I'm rushing past, trying to make my train! I had not noticed that it was a tribute to Christopher Columbus nor that it was placed here because of the large Italian-immigrant population in Astoria. I somehow feel strangely connected. I love the history of NYC-you never know who or what you will discover around you, or within yourself! Sincerely, A.
